Food is necessary to support life. And yet for some people, eating becomes an overwhelming experience that provokes fear, and interrupts daily living. Dr. Khalsa’s talk will present an overview of how the brain is involved in several different types of eating disorders, and will describe new neuroscience-based treatments for these disorders that have emerged in recent years. The information will be presented for a non-scientist audience and should be of interest for individuals affected by eating disorders, family members, and those generally fascinated by the brain.

Dr. Khalsa received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa and completed his residency training at UCLA, where he became an Assistant Professor. In February 2015, Dr. Khalsa joined the Laureate Institute for Brain Research in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as the Director of Clinical Studies, and as an Assistant Professor (tenure track) on the Faculty of Community Medicine at the University of Tulsa.
