Dr. Greenwood-Van Meerveld, Ph.D., AGAF, and FACG completed her Ph.D. in 1983 at the University of Sheffield. Dr. Greenwood-Van Meerveld gained post-doctoral training from the University of Calgary as an Alberta Heritage Foundation Scholar.Dr. Greenwood-Van Meerveld is currently Professor of Physiology, Director of the Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience, and has held the Presbyterian Health Foundation Endowed Chair in Neurosciences since 2004. She is also a VA Career Scientist. Dr. Greenwood-Van Meerveld is actively involved in research currently serving as the PI on two active VA grants and numerous contracts, as well as serving as a co-investigator on a recently completed NIH P20 grant. Dr. Greenwood-Van Meerveld’s research expertise is the neuropharmacology of visceral pain of gastrointestinal origin.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss the relationship between stress and visceral pain.
- Understand the central mechanisms mediating visceral pain.
- Describe the critical relevance of experimental models recapitulating stress induced visceral pain.
